Common questions

Kaldo or a scan isn’t working

Kaldo’s chat and food scanning need an internet connection; the rest of Ulamin works offline. Check your signal or Wi-Fi and try again.

A Kaldo chat is one conversation, and follow-up questions in it are free. Free includes 3 new chats in any rolling 24 hours (the app shows how many are left); Pro is unlimited under a fair-use allowance of up to 100 new chats in any rolling 24 hours, and the app tells you when it returns if you reach it. A chat that fails doesn’t count, reinstalling doesn’t reset it, and food scans aren’t counted as chats. Kaldo only answers about food, recipes, cooking, ingredients, nutrition and allergens.

For a scan, fill the frame with the dish, in good light. Free scans Filipino dishes, up to 5 a day; Pro scans any cuisine with no daily limit. Scans have a daily allowance of their own and never use up a Kaldo chat.

My cooking timer didn’t ring

Allow notifications for Ulamin in your phone’s Settings. On iPhone, also allow Ulamin to use alarms, so the timer rings when the phone is locked or on silent.

Make sure Focus or Do Not Disturb isn’t hiding Ulamin’s notifications.

The prices don’t match my palengke

Every price in Ulamin is an estimate: from the Department of Agriculture’s Bantay Presyo index for Metro Manila where the DA tracks the item, otherwise an Ulamin estimate. Prices differ by city and by season.

Tap an ingredient to see where its price comes from, and set what you actually pay. Every recipe, plan and new list uses your price from then on.

How do I move my data to a new phone?

Ulamin backs up your own recipes and their photos, your plans, lists, notes, collections, Kaldo chats and settings for free, with no account. On iPhone it uses your iCloud; set up the new iPhone with the same Apple Account and it comes back by itself.

On Android it uses Android’s backup in your Google account. Choose to restore from your old phone’s backup while you set up the new one; installing Ulamin later doesn’t bring back another phone’s data. You can see the backup’s status in Settings → Backup.

Cooking mode, What’s in your ref? or the Apple Watch shows a lock

Cooking mode, What’s in your ref? and the Apple Watch’s Cook and List pages are part of Ulamin Pro. Recipes stay free to read, and the Watch’s Today page (today’s dishes) stays free. Tap the lock or PRO tag to see the plans.

If you already subscribed, open Ulamin Pro in the app and tap Restore purchases. The Watch can’t buy anything: open Ulamin on your iPhone to upgrade, and the Watch unlocks by itself a moment later.

I subscribed to Pro but the app shows Free

Open Ulamin Pro in the app and tap Restore purchases, signed in to the same Apple Account or Google account you subscribed with.

How do I cancel Ulamin Pro?

Subscriptions are managed by the store. On iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Ulamin. On Android, open Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. You can also tap Manage subscription on the Ulamin Pro screen.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends or the plan renews to avoid the next charge. Everything you made stays: plans, lists, notes, your own recipes and cooked history. Pro features such as cooking mode, What’s in your ref?, the Apple Watch’s Cooking and List pages and planning beyond this week lock until you subscribe again.

How do I switch to Tagalog?

Open Settings → Language. Menus, recipes and Kaldo follow the language you pick; dish names stay Filipino.

A recipe has a mistake

Open the recipe and tap Report a problem with this recipe. Your mail app opens with the recipe’s name filled in, and nothing is sent until you send it.
