Terms of Use

These terms, which include our end user license agreement (EULA), apply when you download or use Ulamin on iPhone or Android. Please read them, especially the parts about subscriptions, Kaldo, food safety and our responsibility.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Clifford Francisco, doing business as Fordytech Solutions, of Naga City, Camarines Sur, Philippines (“we,” “us”), the developer of the Ulamin app (“Ulamin,” “the app”). By downloading, installing or using Ulamin, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.

You must be at least 13, or the minimum age in your country, to use Ulamin. If you are under 18, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission to buy a subscription.

2. Your license to use Ulamin

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Ulamin for your own non-commercial purposes on devices that you own or control: on Apple-branded devices as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, and on Android devices as permitted by the Google Play Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell, rent or sublicense the app, extract its recipe library, or use it to build a competing product, except where the law expressly allows it.

3. Ulamin Pro, subscriptions and purchases

Ulamin is free to download. Browsing and reading every Filipino recipe, this week’s planner, palengke lists, up to 3 of your own versions of library recipes, 3 new Kaldo chats a day, up to 5 scans of Filipino dishes a day, automatic backup to your iCloud or Google account and the Apple Watch glance (today’s dishes) are free. Ulamin Pro adds extra features, currently cooking mode with its timers, What’s in your ref?, the Apple Watch’s Cooking and List pages, the Handaan planner, the world kitchen, scanning dishes from any cuisine with no daily limit, unlimited Kaldo chats (fair use, see section 5), planning next week and beyond, more of your own versions of library recipes, and a backup file you can save yourself. Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription, billed monthly or yearly, at the prices shown in the app before you buy.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account (on iPhone) or your Google Play account (on Android) when you confirm the purchase.
  • A subscription renews automatically at the same price and for the same period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Pro may start with a free trial (currently 14 days), as shown in the app before you subscribe. The trial converts to a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Any unused part of a trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
  • You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time. On iPhone, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android, open the Google Play Store app → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple or Google, and refunds are subject to their policies. For the App Store, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. For Google Play, request one from your Google Play order history; if Google Play can’t help, contact us.
  • If we change the price of a subscription, Apple or Google will tell you in advance and, where required, ask for your consent.
  • If you change devices, use Restore purchases on the Ulamin Pro screen with the same Apple Account or Google account. Pro bought on iPhone and Pro bought on Android are separate purchases.
  • If Pro ends, nothing you made is deleted: plans, lists, notes, cooked history, your own recipes and handaan menus you already made stay, and only the Pro features (such as cooking mode, What’s in your ref?, the Apple Watch’s Cooking and List pages and planning beyond this week) stop until you subscribe again.

We may add, change or remove features over time. If we remove a core Pro feature you have paid for, we’ll give you notice and, where the law requires it, a fair remedy.

4. Your content

Your own recipes, notes, plans, lists, photos and messages (“your content”) belong to you. You give us permission to store, process and send your content only as needed to run the features you use, as described in the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for your content and for having the right to add it. For example, only add recipes or photos from a cookbook, a website or another person if you have the right to copy them for your own use.

5. Kaldo and food scans

Kaldo and food scans use artificial intelligence to give general information about dishes, recipes, cooking, ingredients, nutrition and allergens, based on your question or photo and the preferences you’ve set. They can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. A scan can name the wrong dish or miss an ingredient.

  • Allergies: never rely on Kaldo, a scan or a recipe’s allergen list alone. Always read the labels of the products you use and ask whoever made a dish. Ulamin cannot know every ingredient or brand.
  • Health: nutrition figures are estimates, and health-goal suggestions are general guidance, not medical or dietary advice. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or follow a diet for health reasons, follow your doctor’s or dietitian’s advice.
  • Faith and diet: Ulamin tries to leave out foods your faith or diet excludes, but practices vary and products can contain hidden ingredients. Check for yourself.
  • Kaldo is limited by new conversations, not messages. Free includes 3 new chats in any rolling 24 hours, and follow-up questions inside a chat don’t count. Pro is presented as unlimited AI access, subject to a fair-use allowance of up to 100 new chats in any rolling 24 hours; if you reach it, Kaldo pauses new chats until the oldest one is more than 24 hours old, and the app tells you when. A chat that doesn’t get an answer isn’t counted, and food scans aren’t counted as chats: a scan has a daily allowance of its own (up to 5 a day for Filipino dishes on Free, and no daily limit with Pro, subject to fair use). Kaldo answers only about food, and we may limit use that is automated, abusive or excessive.
  • Don’t use Kaldo to create unlawful, harmful or misleading content, or to get around its limits.

6. Recipes, prices and timers

Recipes, cooking times, servings, nutrition and allergen information are provided for home cooking and may not suit every kitchen, ingredient or person. Prices and costs are estimates, based on the Department of Agriculture’s Bantay Presyo prices for Metro Manila where available and our own estimates otherwise; what you pay will differ by place, store and season. Reminders, alarms and timers depend on your device settings and may be delayed or not go off. Ulamin helps you plan and cook, but you remain responsible for what you buy, cook and eat.

7. Cook safely

Cooking involves heat, hot oil, sharp knives and food that can make people sick if it isn’t handled properly. Cook meat, poultry, seafood and eggs thoroughly, keep raw and cooked food apart, and don’t leave cooking unattended or rely on a timer alone. Supervise children in the kitchen.

8. Acceptable use

Don’t misuse Ulamin. For example, don’t break the law with it, interfere with or overload our servers, try to access other people’s data, upload malware, or scrape, copy or resell the recipe library or the service.

9. Third-party services and content

Ulamin works with services run by others, such as Google’s Gemini for Kaldo and scans, YouTube for recipe videos, iCloud and Google for backup, and the app store you downloaded it from. Their own terms apply, and we are not responsible for their content or availability. Recipe videos are made by their creators and may differ from Ulamin’s recipe. You must also follow any third-party terms that apply to you, such as your mobile carrier’s terms.

10. Our intellectual property

Ulamin, its recipes, design, code, text, illustrations, Kaldo and the Ulamin name and logo belong to us or our licensors and are protected by law. Some recipe and ingredient photos are used under licenses from their authors, who are credited in the app. Brand names shown with ingredients belong to their owners and don’t mean those brands endorse Ulamin. If you send us feedback, recipe corrections or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.

11. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, Ulamin is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will never lose data, or that its information will be accurate. Keep your own copies of recipes that matter to you.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, illness, allergic reactions, injuries or costs arising from your use of Ulamin, including from relying on Kaldo, a scan, a recipe or a price. Our total liability for any claim about Ulamin is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Ulamin in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived by law, or our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.

13. Ending these Terms

You can stop using Ulamin at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, or if we stop offering the app. If that happens, your license ends, but sections 4, 10 to 12, and 14 to 16 continue to apply.

14. Apple-specific terms

If you downloaded Ulamin from the Apple App Store, you and we also agree that:

  • These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Ulamin and its content.
  • Your license is limited to using Ulamin on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. Apps can also be used by other accounts linked to you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
  • We are solely responsible for providing maintenance and support for Ulamin. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
  • If Ulamin fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for the app, if any. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Ulamin. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses caused by a failure to meet a warranty are our responsibility, to the extent these Terms don’t disclaim them.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to Ulamin or your use of it. This includes (i) product liability claims, (ii) any claim that the app fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and (iii) claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
  • If a third party claims that Ulamin or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
  • You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Questions, complaints or claims about Ulamin should be sent to us using the contact details at the end of these Terms.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

15. Google Play-specific terms

If you downloaded Ulamin from Google Play, you and we also agree that:

  • These Terms are between you and us only, not Google. We, not Google, are solely responsible for Ulamin, its content, and its maintenance and support.
  • Your download and purchases are also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service and Google Play’s payments terms. Where those terms conflict with these Terms about how Google Play works, Google’s terms apply to that part.
  • Questions, complaints or claims about Ulamin should be sent to us using the contact details at the end of these Terms.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally. Any dispute that can’t be resolved informally will be heard by the courts of Naga City, Camarines Sur, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it in your local courts.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Ulamin changes. We’ll revise the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or on this page before they take effect. If you keep using Ulamin after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If any part of these Terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
